Is GPT-3 available for free? The answer is Yes, and it is now available to all.

OpenAI recently announced the expansion of its cloud-based OpenAI API service, which allows developers to create apps based on the research group’s powerful GPT-3 artificial intelligence model. Previously, developers had to sign up for a waitlist, and there was limited capacity.

GPT-3 would be greater, more versatile, and qualitatively stronger.

According to OpenAI, β€œsafety progress” enabled GPT-3’s transition from private beta to beta. Over the last year, the business has created endpoints for β€œmore accurate” question-answering, offered a content filter to aid in abuse mitigation, and constructed models β€” β€œinstruct” models β€” that presumably follow to human instructions better.

β€œOur policies have always banned using our API in ways that violate the ideals outlined in our charter, and content such as hate speech remains forbidden… β€œWe are always trying to increase the robustness of our content filters, and we expect to enable acceptable use within specific categories as our system develops,” OpenAI added. β€œWe’re thrilled to have the safeguards in place to make GPT-3 available to more developers.” As our protections improve, we will broaden how the API may be utilized while also increasing the user experience.”

OpenAI has made its GPT-3 API available to everyone, putting a stop to the application and waitlist system that has been in place since the language model’s introduction last year. The API’s technical and safety characteristics, according to the business, have been upgraded to the point where individual access authorization is no longer required.

What Can You Expect If You Get GPT-3?

β€œThrough our platform, tens of thousands of developers are already taking advantage of strong AI models.” β€œWe anticipate that by making these models available through an easy-to-use API, more developers will find innovative methods to apply AI to a wide range of useful applications and open challenges,” the OpenAI team said in a blog post today.

Other updates include an updated Playground that makes it easier to prototype models, an example library with hundreds of prompts to get developers started, and Codex, a new model that converts natural language into code. A new feature called Answers is also available. The innovation should make GPT-3 more valuable for businesses developing apps like customer support chatbots. A corporation may use Answers to give information from sources like as product manuals and internal knowledge bases to GPT-3.

Accessing the playground

I’ve gone through everything so you’ll know what to anticipate. First, they need the standard account information: name, password, email, and phone number verification. However, they also request the goal of the usage, whether it is to construct a product or feature, for personal use, study, or for journalism and content production.

I know OpenAI doesn’t like it when individuals share GPT-3 completions on social media, blogs, or magazines, so I wanted to explore if the accessibility would change depending on how you used it. I created two distinct accounts for various purposes.

Pricing and usage

GPT-3 is made available to developers by OpenAI via its OpenAI API service, which is a cloud-based application programming interface with usage-based pricing.

OpenAI charges per token created by GPT-3 or suggested by it. (A token is a word fragment.) Tokens are assumed to be 0.75 words.)

You get $18 in free credit to use as you like for the first three months. 1000 tokens cost $0.06 in the case of the DaVinci model (GPT-3’s most powerful version). You’ll get 300,000 free tokens if you spend $18. With those $18 credits, you could write four full-length novels.

It is recommended that you read the documentation carefully, play with examples, and use the presets (predefined themed prompts) to gain a better understanding of how GPT-3 works.

Last but not least, you must adhere to the safety rules.

STUNTED FOR SAFETY

After unveiling GPT-3 last year, OpenAI sparked a lot of interest. Microsoft obtained an exclusive licensing agreement almost immediately and has been incorporating it into services such as the low-code Power Apps development tool and the new Azure OpenAI Service for its corporate clients ever since. Microsoft also integrated the model into Github Copilot, transforming the AI into a pair programmer utilizing the Codex framework. The safety enhancements also include new criteria for developers on what GPT-3 can be used for. Adult subjects, politics, and violence have been added to the company’s list of prohibited topics, along with hate speech and viruses.

As far As I've observed, it appears that they now have greater say over what is feasible. This makes it safer to use GPT-3 freely as long as you follow the recommendations, but it severely limits the use cases. Still, I’d argue that having constrained access to GTP-3 is preferable to not having access β€” at least for those of you who just want to play and explore with the playground.

β€œI’ve been experimenting with fine-tuning a lot, and I’m happy to start producing resources for others interested in GPT-3, I’d want to create instructional videos to introduce others to this GPT-3 world.”

Even if they haven’t improved in other crucial areas, such as being Microsoft’s slave, this news is a step in the right direction for the organization. GPT-3 is now too expensive for long-term research and commercial development. In the near future, alternative choices will be available β€” either from the open-source community or from direct rivals trying to slice a piece of the NLP market.

I hope you have a wonderful time!
