Currently, the cost of using the Sora video generation tool is unknown, as it has yet to be officially made available to users.
However, a ChatGPT Plus account can generate up to 50 images per day.
Calculated at 25 frames per second, this amounts to a video duration of two seconds.
The cost of a Plus account is $20 per month, which can be considered OpenAI’s protective pricing.
Therefore, if Sora allows users to generate 10 minutes of video per day, that would be 600 seconds, implying that the monthly subscription would be $6000.
This is a price point that is almost certainly not commercially viable.
For comparison, the video generation tool Pika is priced at $10/month, $35/month, and $70/month.
Sora would need to be priced under $200 per month, otherwise, this technology is unlikely to be accessible to the wider market.
If, in the future, Sora can support the generation of 10-minute videos daily at a subscription price of $200 per month, the short video content ecosystem will undergo a dramatic change.
The standard duration for a TikTok short video is currently 15 seconds, and a maximum generation of 10 minutes per day means that 40 short videos could be produced.
