AGI and the Future of Work: Apocalypse or Collaboration?
The march of artificial intelligence has reignited an age-old fear: will smart machines take our jobs?
In one corner are the AGI doomers, who warn that a truly general AI could replace virtually all human labor, driving wages to zero and economies into collapse.
In the opposite corner are the techno-optimists, who argue that AI will behave more like a powerful tractor or spreadsheet — automating routine tasks while creating new opportunities and raising productivity.

The article explores the contrasting views on the impact of artificial general intelligence (AGI) on the labor market. On one hand, proponents of the “doom scenario” fear massive job losses and economic collapse due to AGI taking over human tasks. On the other hand, optimists believe that AGI will enhance human capabilities and create new job opportunities, drawing historical parallels to past technological advancements. The narrative suggests a middle ground where collaboration between humans and AI can lead to transformative growth while also necessitating careful policy responses to address potential inequalities and economic disruptions.
