In the early days of my teaching career, admitting, “Hmm… I don’t have an immediate answer. Let me think about it and we can discuss it next class,” was so embarrassing.
It felt like a self-imposed scarlet letter, signaling my incompetence for all to see. The concept of intellectual humility, at that time, seemed far from a virtue.
