Many years ago, when the field of data analytics spun off, it was mainly the statistical analysis of data on small datasets. We used to talk about just a few thousand of data points in those datasets. Today, the datasets run into terabytes. Data scientists of today not only have to handle such large datasets which are static, but they have to deal with even dynamic datasets.
